Before you arrive
Just a few hints to make your byron bay massage more comfortable and more effective.
Try not to have coffee in the preceding hours before a massage. It just stimulates the part of the nervous system that we are trying to relax.
If your are sandy or particularly sweaty its a good idea for your comfort and ours to have a quick shower or a swim before coming in.
When you walk into our air conditioned oasis right in the middle of town you will be asked to fill in some preliminary health information. Your massage therapist will also ask information about the medical history, physical condition, stress level, lifestyle, medications and different areas of the physical pain that can actually affect the outcome of the massage.
Feeling safe and comfortable is one other important factor that we try to provide before, during and after the massage. Your massage therapist will ask you to remove the clothes to your own comfort level, we have special gowns for people who prefer. If you prefer to leave your clothes on, no worries! The most important thing is that you are comfortable and can enjoy the benefits of hands on treatment.
Music is also a big part of creating a relaxing environment. If you find it distracting or don’t like the music choice, no worries. You can ask your therapist to turn it off or suggest something you’d prefer during your massage. Same goes for conversations. If you feel like a chat or unloading a bit then great if you prefer to take the time to be quiet during your massage that’s more than fine too! Your massage therapist will check the pressure along with the comfort during your massage, its all about openness and clear communication, you’re in control here we are at your service!
Oils
The massage therapy uses a water soluble, specialised hypoallergenic, vegan massage oil. It’s unscented and washed off in the shower without soap as its water soluble.
If you prefer to use your own massage oil thats fine too just bring it along for the massage.
After your Byron Bay massage
After the massage it’s a good idea to drink plenty of water. You will hear people say it helps flush out toxins, this has been argued about in health circles but our take is that drinking enough water is also essential to good health, and that is often related to our body’s ability to detoxify. Water supports the kidneys as they process toxicants and nutrients. And a well-hydrated body transports oxygen throughout all cells.
So just because massage therapists recommend drinking water directly after massage isn’t concretely proven in the research literature, there are plenty of great reasons to drink it anyway.
